Meet the Team

  • Kelli Kolar, DVM

    KELLI KOLAR, DVM

    Owner/Veterinarian

Dr. Kelli Kolar was raised on a cattle ranch in Raynesford, Montana, which sparked her interest in veterinary medicine and love of agriculture and rural lifestyle. From childhood through her education, Dr. Kolar has spent a lot of time working with cattle and working with horses of multiple disciplines. These experiences set her on the path to large animal medicine early on.

Dr. Kolar completed her undergraduate studies at Montana State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science. At MSU she gained valuable hands-on experience in bovine and equine reproduction, and advanced education in equine management and beef cattle management. Her summers were spent assisting at two mixed animal clinics to gain more hands-on veterinary experience.

After MSU, Dr. Kolar attended veterinary school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. During her time at CSU, she focused on large animal medicine and expanded her knowledge of livestock to include dairy cows, small ruminants, swine, and camelids. She was involved with several student associations, including the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners. Her education at CSU cemented her interest in large animal medicine and sparked new special interests in equine lameness and dentistry.

Upon graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Kolar returned home to practice veterinary medicine and help run the family ranch. She worked at a mixed animal practice in Great Falls for 5 years. In June 2022, Dr. Kolar formed South Peak Veterinary Services in order to be able to focus more on her passion for large animal medicine and work closer to the family ranch. Her special interests include beef cattle herd health, equine sports medicine, equine dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and preventative medicine in all species. When she’s not working, Dr. Kolar enjoys spending time outdoors and helping on the ranch with her horse, Blazer, and her cow dog, Luna.

  • MIYA SCHMECHEL, LVT

    Veterinary Technician

Miya Schmechel was born and raised in Great Falls, Montana and found her passion for animals and veterinary care working at a family friend's vet clinic. After discovering her love for animals, she attended veterinary technician school at Eastern Wyoming College, where she graduated with an Associate of Applied Science in 2023. After graduation she returned to Montana to work in a mixed animal practice, and discovered she wanted to focus more on large animal medicine. That realization led her to join Dr. Kolar at South Peak Veterinary Services.

Outside of work, Miya enjoys spending time with her three dogs and horses, as well as hiking and reading.

  • Dr. Kelli Kolar of South Peak Veterinary Services has been an exemplary addition to our family’s ranching success. She has aided our cattle in pregnancy checking, semen analysis, abscess hoof repair, and calf jaw repair to name a few. For my horses, she has floated teeth, removed porcupine quills, and treated rattlesnake bites in the face. She is extremely knowledgeable in horse health, being a horsewoman herself, and I feel confident with her recommendations on vaccinations. We feel very blessed to have her in our community and consider her a friend! Thank you Dr. Kolar!

  • Dr. Kolar and her veterinary technician Janelle are both wonderful and very knowledgeable. Over the last year, we have called them out for both our pigs. Our kids raise pigs in 4-H and one of their pigs this year had a umbilical hernia. Dr. Kolar and Janelle did a great job repairing the hernia while showing great concern with the wellbeing of our son's 4H pig. They wanted to make sure he would still be able to take his pig to the livestock show, which was much appreciated. They ended up coming back out a couple weeks later to make sure everything healed up just fine. We recommend their services to anybody in the area.
